Day 1: Setting off from Ha Giang you head towards Dong Van following the main route along the QL4C. You will pass some stunning views and hit some incredible roads. Not far outside of Ha Giang is Quan Ba which has plenty of homestays, and is a good option to stay if you don’t want to go too far on the first day or don’t want an early start in Ha Giang. Later in the first day you will pass by the Hmong Palace and can head north to the Lung Cu flag tower, an impressive monument to Vietnam’s national sovereignty. 



Day 2: On day 2 you will leave Dong Van with the option to head north in a loop around a dirt track with amazing mountain views. This road is not well maintained so we recommend one of our offroad bikes like the Honda XR 150cc. You have the option to go all the way or just a little bit before turning around. You will then head south and pass the Ma Pi Leng pass, considered to be the most spectacular view of Ha Giang. After the Ma Pi Leng Pass you will see a large selection of homestays just before Meo Vac. We recommend staying here if you want to extend your trip or if you want to take a boat ride. The boat trip starts from a turning just before the homestays and heads up river. This gives a very different view of the Ma Pi Leng pass and the first chance to take a swim on the trip. From Meo Vac you will head into the heart of the mountains of Ha Giang and towards Du Gia. The roads here are much smaller and quieter than the previous day. At Du Gia you will be able to head to the waterfalls and take a dip.



Day 3: On the final day you will return to Ha Giang city.

This 5 day route takes you to Ba Be Lake National Park – Vietnam’s largest natural lake and home to some mysterious local myths. You will follow the same path as our 3 day route, but as you leave Du Gia you will head north again and back to Meo Vac. From here you will head south to Bao Lac, home to the Lolo ethnic minority groups. From Bao Lac, you will continue south to the national park of Ba Be Lake. It is a perfect final stop for a motorbike trip as you can relax with a swim or a boat trip in the lake. From here you will make your way back to Ha Giang to finish your trip.

This is our longest route and the one we most recommend if you have time. It follows the same path as our 3 day route until Du Gia. As you leave Du Gia, you will head north and back past Meo Vac, then south to Bao Lac staying here for a night. If you’re up for a longer ride then you can ride all of the way to Cao Bang without stopping in Bao Lac. Cao Bang is the largest city on the route other than Ha Giang city. You will spend one night in Cao Bang (or 2 if you didn’t stay in Bao Lac) and head to the Ban Gioc waterfall for the day, which will bring you right up to the border with China. From Cao Bang you will head to the national park at Ba Be Lake. A beautiful a peaceful lake where you can relax and swim, or take boat trip on the lak. On your final day you will make your way back to Ha Giang city.
