Insurance and Damage Waiver
Motorbike insurance isn’t a thing in Vietnam. That is to say that there is no 3rd party insurance, theft insurance or general motorbike insurance. While there is something you can get called “insurance” for $2 at petrol stations, this isn’t something that you will be able to claim on if there is an accident and in reality it is not insurance as most people would understand it.
In the unfortunate event that there is an accident then this is settled between the 2 parties there and then. If both parties involved cannot decide who is at fault then the police can come to decide who is at fault and their word is final. More often than not this doesn’t happen though and it is better to sort it out without involving the police. If this occurs then it is always best to contact us so that we can help translate and solve the situation.
While there is no motorbike insurance, having travel insurance is all the more important. But it is important to check with your insurance provider what you are required to have to ride a motorbike and still be insured. Generally this would mean having an International Drivers Permit with motorbike stamp or riding a 50cc bike, which in Vietnam requires no license.
At Style Motorbikes we do offer an optional damage waiver with our rentals so that you can at least limit the risk if there is an accident. This covers most damage of the rental motorbike and regardless of the license or experience you have. We recommend this to all of our customers as this is the closest that we can offer to insurance for customers.
If you mean more information about the damage waiver or want to know more information about the International Drivers Permits, IDP, then just contact us and we can provide more information which will vary depending on the bike you rent and which country issues your IDP.
