Buy & Sell Motorbikes in Vietnam

For those planning a long adventure in Vietnam, buying a motorbike can sometimes be a better deal than a long-term rental.

At Style Motorbikes, we not only rent bikes but also offer motorbikes for sale across Vietnam – perfect for travelers spending at least two months or more on the road.

We have motorbikes for sale in Ha Giang, Hanoi, Hue, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City, making it easy to buy or sell in the north, center, or south of Vietnam.

When Is Buying Better Than Renting?

Buying a motorbike in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City can work out cheaper than renting if you have time to find a good bike and to sell it at the end of your trip.

Having at least a week to sell your bike before leaving Vietnam gives you the best chance to get a fair price. With less time, you may need to sell quickly – and at a lower price – just to complete the sale.

What Bike Should I Buy?

There are countless motorbike models available in Vietnam, but not all are easy to resell. Choosing a popular model among backpackers will make your life much easier when it comes time to sell.

Buying a Detech / Honda Win

The legendary Detech (Honda Win copy) has been a backpacker favorite for years. It’s cheap, easy to fix, and simple to resell. While demand isn’t as high as it once was, it remains one of the easiest bikes to buy and sell with minimal loss.

Buying a Honda Wave

The Honda Wave is the most common bike in Vietnam – a semi-automatic that’s reliable, affordable, and versatile. While it’s not the top choice for long-distance travelers, it’s easy to buy and resell at a reasonable price.

Buying a Honda XR 150

The Honda XR150L is a premium option, typically priced between $1,500 and $2,000. It’s powerful and ideal for off-road travel, but harder to resell due to the higher cost. Buying from a reputable motorbike shop is recommended for these bikes, as they require more care and higher repair costs if issues arise.

Finding a Motorbike to Buy in Vietnam

Finding a good-quality motorbike takes time – and some mechanical experience helps.

When you rent a motorbike from Style Motorbikes, we cover any breakdowns under our warranty. But if you buy, maintenance and repair costs are your responsibility.

That’s why it’s safer to buy from a trusted shop like Style Motorbikes, where every bike is serviced, inspected, and backed by English-speaking support. Buying from another backpacker might seem cheaper, but the risk of hidden problems is much higher.

What’s the Risk with Buying a Motorbike?

There are two main risks when buying a motorbike in Vietnam:

  1. Unexpected repair costs – Any mechanical issue or breakdown during your trip is your responsibility.

  2. Uncertain resale value – You can’t know in advance how much you’ll sell the bike for at the end of your trip.

In the best-case scenario, you buy a solid bike and sell it to another backpacker for only a small loss.
In the worst case, you may struggle to sell quickly, be forced to sell to a shop for a low price, or pay for expensive repairs along the way.

Sometimes, buying can end up more expensive than renting, especially when factoring in lost time and unexpected costs.

Summary

Buying a motorbike in Vietnam can be rewarding, but it’s also a gamble.

If you have time, mechanical knowledge, and flexibility, you can minimize the risk. But for most travelers, renting offers peace of mind, predictable costs, and full support throughout your trip.

At Style Motorbikes, we offer both motorbike rentals and motorbikes for sale, giving you the freedom to choose what’s best for your travel plans.
We also provide English-speaking support, serviced bikes, and a nationwide network to assist you anywhere in Vietnam.
