Ha Giang Loop Bike Rental: Complete 2026 Guide
Introduction
A Ha Giang Loop bike rental is one of the most spectacular in Southeast Asia — a 300km+ circuit through Vietnam’s far north that winds through UNESCO-recognised karst mountains, deep river gorges, and remote ethnic minority villages that most travellers never reach. It’s also one of the most challenging rides in the country, and choosing the right bike matters more here than anywhere else in Vietnam.
This guide covers everything you need to know about renting a bike for the Ha Giang Loop in 2026: the full fleet, exact pricing, license requirements, one-way options, what’s included, and honest advice on which bike actually suits your experience level and trip plan.
What Is the Ha Giang Loop?
The Ha Giang Loop is a circuit starting and finishing in Ha Giang city, taking riders through the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark — a UNESCO-recognised geological wonder in Vietnam’s far north. The classic loop covers roughly 300–350km through Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, and Meo Vac, with the dramatic Ma Pi Leng Pass as its most iconic section.
Most riders complete the loop in 3–4 days. Five to six days is a better pace if you want to get away from the crowds and explore the less touristy neighbouring region of Cao Bang. The roads involve sustained climbs, steep descents, tight switchbacks, and some unpaved stretches — it is not the same as city riding or a coastal highway cruise. Ha Giang rewards riders who come prepared.
| Thinking about Cao Bang too? If you have 5+ days, consider extending to Cao Bang province — adjacent to the loop area and significantly quieter than Ha Giang. We can advise on combined routes when you book. |

Bikes Available for the Ha Giang Loop
At our Ha Giang shop, we run a full fleet from 50cc up to 500cc, located right at the start of the loop. Here’s an honest breakdown of every bike and who it suits to make sure you have the right Ha Giang Loop bike rental.
50cc: Sym Wave 50cc — $10/day | No License Required
The Sym Wave is a semi-automatic 50cc — and under Vietnamese law, any bike 50cc and under can be ridden without a motorcycle license. This is the legal route for riders without an International Driving Permit or whose license doesn’t cover motorcycles.
Honest assessment: The Ha Giang Loop involves long, steep climbs. A 50cc will get you around the loop, but accept a slower pace. Thousands of riders complete it on 50cc every year — go in with realistic expectations and it’s a legitimate option. This is the only legal option for Australians, Canadians, American, New Zealanders and anyone else with only the 1949 convention IDP.
Who it suits: Riders without a valid license, or those new to motorbikes. If you have no riding confidence at all, our guided Easy Rider tour is a better choice — more on that below.
Important: The Sym Wave 50cc is only available from our Ha Giang shop. A drop-off fee always applies if you want to end your trip in another city.
110–125cc: Honda Wave, Suzuki GD110, Honda Future 125, Honda CG125
Honda Wave Alpha 110cc — $10/day Vietnam’s most common bike. Semi-automatic, lightweight, fuel-efficient. Best for solo riders on a relaxed loop timeline.
Suzuki GD110 — $13/day Similar class to the Wave but with manual transmission — good for riders comfortable with a clutch who want something lightweight without stepping up to 150cc.
Honda Future 125FI — $13/day Semi-automatic with more power and a more comfortable riding position than the Wave. Genuinely two-person capable for shorter distances. A smart choice for couples where one person hasn’t ridden much.
Honda CG125 — $13/day A manual 125cc relevant for riders whose insurance or home license caps them at 125cc — common with some European licenses. If your license limits you to 125cc, this is the right bike. Like the 50cc, the CG125 is Ha Giang-exclusive and a drop-off fee applies to any other destination.
150-190cc: Honda CB Verza, Honda XR150L, Honda CB150X, Honda XR 190L
Honda CB Verza 150 — $17/day A street-style manual 150cc and one of the best-value options for two riders. If you’re a couple or two friends sharing one bike on a budget, the Verza gives genuine 150cc power without the premium price of the larger cc bikes.
Honda XR150L — $18/day ⭐ Most Popular The XR150L is our most booked bike for the Ha Giang Loop. It’s a trail-oriented dual-sport with proper ground clearance, a reliable engine, and ergonomics built for full days in the saddle. Manual transmission gives full control on steep technical descents, and the off-road capability handles gravel sections without drama. If you’re an intermediate rider doing the loop solo, the XR150L is the default right answer.
Honda CB150X — $25/day The best-performing 150cc in our fleet — a newer adventure-touring model with more refinement, more hp, stronger strong suspension and a rear as well as front disk brake. At $25/day it represents the best performance-to-price point in the 150cc class.
Honda XR190L — $25/day More torque than the 150cc bikes, genuine two-up comfort over multi-day distances, and a trail-capable chassis. The best choice for two riders who want to cover the loop without the engine working hard on the climbs.
300–500cc: Kawasaki Versys-X 300, Honda CB500X
These bikes are where Style Motorbikes stands apart in Ha Giang. Very few rental shops in the area offer anything above 150cc but we have large cc adventure bikes for experienced riders.
Kawasaki Versys-X 300 — $50/day A genuine adventure bike — twin-cylinder, ABS brakes, equally capable on road and light trail. Almost no other rental shop in Ha Giang offers this model. If you’re an experienced rider wanting real performance, especially for a longer journey continuing south after the loop, the Versys delivers a riding experience well beyond anything in the 150cc class.
Honda CB500X — $60/day Vietnam’s premium touring rental. 500cc, ABS, supremely comfortable over long distances, and the best two-person touring capability in our fleet. Ideal if Ha Giang is the start of a longer one-way journey — Hue, Hoi An, HCMC — and you want a bike that handles everything without compromise.

What’s Included with Every Rental & Available For Rent
Every Style Motorbikes rental comes with a full kit — not just the bike keys:
- European-standard helmet(full-face available)
- Riding jacket and protective gear(for rent — uncommon at most Ha Giang shops)
- Rain coat (for rent)
- Phone holder(handlebar-mounted)
- USB phone charger(wired to bike electrics)
- Bungee cordsfor luggage
- Downloadable GPS route mapsfor the Ha Giang Loop
- In-house mechanicsat our Ha Giang shop
- Mechanic partnersat Dong Van and Meo Vac on the loop, and Cao Bang
- WhatsApp supportthroughout your trip

The riding jackets and protective gear are worth noting specifically. Most rental shops in Ha Giang don’t offer them. European-standard helmets with proper safety certification are also not standard practice here. If safety equipment matters to you, this is one of the clearest practical differences between our operation and the cheaper alternatives.
License Requirements: What You Actually Need
Getting this right before you arrive matters. Ha Giang has police checkpoints, and the fines for riding the wrong bike without correct documentation are real.
To legally ride any bike above 50cc in Vietnam you need:
- A valid home country motorcycle license covering the relevant engine class
- An International Driving Permit (1968 Geneva Convention)— Vietnam does not recognise the 1949 IDP
License class matters:
- A1 classcovers up to 125cc — valid for the CG125 and everything below
- A or A2 classcovers 125cc and above — required for 150cc bikes and larger
If you’re stopped at a checkpoint without the correct license for your bike, expect a fine of 3,000,000 VND. If you’re unsure about your specific situation — Australian, UK, German, US licenses all work differently — contact us before you book. We give honest, practical advice based on experience with thousands of international riders.
No license at all? The Sym Wave 50cc is your legal option for solo riding. Or consider our Easy Rider guided tour, where our guides do the riding — you see the entire loop without any license requirement or riding pressure.

One-Way Rental Options From Ha Giang
Ha Giang doesn’t have to be a round trip. With Style Motorbikes shops in Hanoi, Hoi An, and HCMC, you can complete the loop and continue south rather than backtracking.
| Route | Drop-Off Fee | Notes |
| Ha Giang → Hanoi (5+ days) | No fee | Most popular one-way |
| Ha Giang → Hanoi (<5 days) | $20 (under 150cc) / $30 (150cc) / $60 (large cc) | — |
| Ha Giang → Hoi An | Fee applies | Minimum rental applies |
| Ha Giang → HCMC | Fee applies | Minimum rental applies |
Note: The Sym Wave 50cc and Honda CG125 are Ha Giang-exclusive bikes. A drop-off fee always applies for these models regardless of destination or rental length.
One-way rentals need to be arranged in advance so we can coordinate bike logistics between locations. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates and planned route and we’ll confirm everything before you arrive.
Deposit & Payment
Deposit options:
- Cash deposit:$400–$1,500 depending on bike value — fully refunded when the bike comes back in agreed condition
- Passport:Held securely at the shop — fully returned at the end of your rental
Both options are equally valid. If you’re not comfortable leaving your passport, the cash deposit is always available as an alternative. The deposit can be in any currency but the passport is the most common option.
Payment:
- Cash accepted in USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, and VND
- Card accepted with a 5% processing fee
- Deposit has to be returned in cash so bring the currency in cash with you that you want back so you don’t end up with a large amount of VND.
Why Book in Advance?
Walk-ins are fine most of the year. But during peak season — particularly March — quality bikes are booked out fast. The XR150L, CB150X, Versys-X 300, and CB500X are regularly reserved ahead of time. Arriving in March and expecting your first choice to be available is a risk not worth taking. Ensure you have your bike reserved for your Ha Giang loop bike rental.
Common hesitations — and honest answers:
“I want to see the bikes before I commit.”
Watch our shop tour video, click here, to see the fleet and facilities before you arrive. We also have 486 Google reviews at 4.9 stars — read what past riders say about the bikes and the service.
“My Vietnam plans are flexible.”
Book with a start date and let us know via WhatsApp if you need to shift by a day or two. We understand that travel plans in Vietnam change — we work with people on this.
“I’m not sure how reliable the rental process is.”
Cuong and the Ha Giang team have been running this shop for years. We have in-house mechanics on site (uncommon in Ha Giang), mechanic partners at Dong Van and Meo Vac on the loop, and WhatsApp support throughout your trip. We’re not a seasonal pop-up.

Should You Self-Ride or Take a Guided Tour?
Self-ride is right for you if:
- You have solid motorbike experience and are comfortable on mountain roads
- You’re happy navigating with GPS maps (we provide downloadable routes)
- You want to set your own pace and explore independently
- You’re an experienced rider who wants to go off-road or find your own way
Our guided Easy Rider tours are right for you if:
- You don’t have riding experience but want to experience the loop
- You’re nervous about the mountain roads or traffic conditions
- You want someone to handle navigation, accommodation, and local knowledge
- You want a relaxed pace with a guide who knows every viewpoint and shortcut
Private Tour
- The best of both worlds. Set your own pace and route but with a guide showing the way, arranging accommodation, food and there for support if you need it.
- With groups we charge no extra for private tours.
| One thing riders consistently underestimate: Ha Giang is not inherently dangerous if you ride sensibly. It becomes dangerous when riders unfamiliar with mountain roads try to go too fast, or head off on unmarked roads without local knowledge. Our guides keep a relaxed pace and know the roads intimately. If there’s any doubt in your mind about solo riding, the guided tour is genuinely the better experience — not just the safer one. |
We also offer a Ride & Relax option (motorbike combined with support van) for groups who want the flexibility to ride sections and rest when needed.

About Our Ha Giang Shop
| Style Motorbikes Ha Giang
20 Hoang Huu Chuyen, Ha Giang, Vietnam (+84) 91 274 9113 | stylemotorbikes@gmail.com Open every day: 8am – 6pm |
Our Ha Giang shop is run by Cuong (one of the owners) and sits right at the start of the Ha Giang Loop. The shop also operates motorbike tours, jeep tours, and SUV tours from the same location, with a homestay attached for riders arriving the night before.

What makes us different from other Ha Giang rental shops:
In-house mechanics. Most rental shops in Ha Giang don’t have a mechanic on site. We do. If something needs attention before you leave, it gets fixed — not waved away.
Mechanic support on the loop. We have partner mechanics at Dong Van and Meo Vac, and in Cao Bang. If something goes wrong mid-route, we have people in the right places.
Larger cc bikes available. The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 and Honda CB500X are rarely found at other Ha Giang shops. If you want a proper touring or adventure bike, we’re one of very few options.
European helmets and riding jackets. Not just the standard local helmets handed out at most shops — proper certified gear, plus jackets for those who want full protection.
Tours and rentals from one location. If you arrive and decide you’d rather do a guided tour than ride solo, or want to add a jeep day to your self-ride loop, we can organise it all from the same team.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a license to ride in Ha Giang?
For any bike above 50cc, yes. You need a valid home country motorcycle license for the relevant engine class and a 1968 Convention IDP. The 1949 IDP is not recognised in Vietnam. For 50cc, no license is required for a Ha Giang Loop bike rental. Contact us if you’re unsure about your specific license situation.
What happens if my bike breaks down on the loop?
We have mechanic partners at Dong Van and Meo Vac. Contact us on WhatsApp and we’ll coordinate. Minor issues — punctures, small adjustments — can usually be handled by local mechanics along the route, who are easy to find.
Can I rent in Ha Giang and return the bike in Hanoi?
Yes. Ha Giang → Hanoi with a 5+ day rental has no drop-off fee. Shorter periods have a fee. See the one-way table above for full details.
Is the Ha Giang Loop suitable for complete beginners?
Not for solo self-riding. The mountain roads require confident bike handling, especially on descents. If you’re new to riding, our Easy Rider guided tour is the better experience — you get the full loop without the risk of managing technical mountain roads without experience.
What’s the best time of year for the Ha Giang Loop?
October–April (dry season) is generally the best riding period. March is peak for rapeseed flowers — beautiful but busy, and bikes run out fast. May–September brings lush green landscapes but more road risk from rain and occasional flooding. See our Best Time to Visit Ha Giang Guide, click here, for a full seasonal breakdown.
Is petrol available on the loop?
Yes — there are plenty of petrol stations throughout the Ha Giang Loop. It’s not something you need to plan around.
Can I continue to Cao Bang from Ha Giang?
Yes, and it’s well worth it if you have 5+ days. Cao Bang is significantly quieter than Ha Giang with spectacular scenery — Ban Gioc waterfall, Nguom Ngao cave. We have mechanic partners there as well. Ask about combined routes when you book.
What if I arrive in Ha Giang late at night?
Our Ha Giang location has a homestay attached. If you’re arriving on a sleeper bus, you can stay the night and pick up your bike the next morning when the shop opens at 8am but make sure you contact us beforehand for this service.
Ready to Book?
WhatsApp us — tell us your dates, experience level, and whether you’re riding solo or two-up, and we’ll recommend the right bike and handle the rest.
Or check availability and book online.
Walk-ins are welcome outside peak season. If you’re visiting in March or have a specific bike in mind, book in advance to avoid disappointment.
