One-Way Motorbike Rental Vietnam: Complete 2026 Guide
What is One-Way Motorbike Rental?
One-way motorbike rental lets you start your journey in one Vietnamese city and finish in another—without the hassle of returning to your starting point.
Traditional rental: Pick up in Hanoi → Ride south → Return to Hanoi
One-way rental: Pick up in Hanoi → Ride south → Drop off in HCMC
It’s the difference between seeing Vietnam’s highlights and truly exploring the country from north to south (or vice versa).
Who One-Way Rental is Perfect For:
- Long-term travelers exploring Vietnam over 2-6 weeks
- Flying into one city, out of another (maximize your route, no backtracking)
- Bucket-list riders wanting the full north-south Vietnamese experience
- Adventure seekers who want maximum flexibility and freedom
- Anyone who values their time and doesn’t want to re-ride the same roads

Why Choose One-Way Rental Over Round-Trip?
After 12 years of helping travelers explore Vietnam by motorbike, we’ve seen why one-way rental transforms the experience:
1. See More in Less Time
Vietnam is a long country, 1,650km north to south, and much longer with all the twists and turns on the roads. A round-trip from Hanoi means:
- Riding the same roads twice
- Wasting weeks retracing your route
- Missing destinations in the south (or north) due to time constraints
One-way rental: Every day brings new scenery, new experiences, no repetition.
2. Optimize Your Flight Routes
Most travelers don’t fly into and out of the same city. One-way rental matches how people actually travel:
- Fly into Hanoi (explore the north, Ha Giang Loop)
- Ride south through Central Vietnam (Hue, Hoi An, Dalat)
- Fly out of HCMC (you’re already there—no backtracking)
Save time. Save money on internal flights. Maximize your adventure.
3. Freedom to Explore at Your Own Pace
With one-way rental, you’re not racing to “get back” to your starting point. You can:
- Spend a extra days in a place you love
- Take detours to hidden gems
- Adjust your route as you discover new places
- Follow recommendations from travelers you meet
The route adapts to you, not the other way around.
4. Experience Vietnam’s Full Diversity
North to south, Vietnam changes dramatically:
- Northern mountains: Terraced rice fields, ethnic minority villages, Ha Giang Loop
- Central coast: Ancient towns (Hoi An, Hue), mountain passes (Hai Van), beaches
- Central Highlands: Coffee plantations, cooler climate, Dalat’s French colonial charm
- Southern deltas: Mekong River, tropical heat, river life
One-way rental lets you experience all of it.

All Route Combinations & Fees (Complete Transparency)
We believe in transparent pricing. Here’s exactly what every route combination costs for one-way rental:
NO FEE Routes (Most Popular)
These routes have zero one-way fee because they’re finishing our two main branches:
- Hanoi ↔ HCMC — NO FEE
- HCMC ↔ Hanoi — NO FEE
- Hoi An → Hanoi — NO FEE
- Hoi An → HCMC — NO FEE
- Hue → Hanoi — NO FEE

Why no fee? Many customers finish in Hanoi or HCMC, so bikes naturally flow back to these locations. We don’t need to transport them by truck.

These routes require us to transport bikes away from our smaller branches (more finishers than starters):
From Hanoi to:
- Hanoi → Hue: $20 – $60 (depending on bike size)
- Hanoi → Hoi An: $20 – $60
- Hanoi → Ha Giang: $20 – $60
From HCMC to:
- HCMC → Hue: $20 – $60
- HCMC → Hoi An: $20 – $60
- HCMC → Ha Giang: $20 – $60
From Hue/Hoi An to:
- Hue/Hoi An → Ha Giang: $20 – $60
From Ha Giang to:
- Ha Giang → Any location: Check specific route
Fee Structure by Bike Size:
- $20 fee: Under 150cc bikes (Wave, Future, GD110, 50cc)
- $30 fee: 150-190cc bikes (XR150L, CB150X, CB150 Verza, XR190L)
- $60 fee: 300-500cc bikes (Versys 300, CB500X)
The fee covers our truck transport costs to reposition bikes between branches.
How We Compare to Competitors
Most rental shops in Vietnam charge drop-off fees for ANY different location—even Hanoi to HCMC.
Style Motorbikes: The two most popular routes (Hanoi-HCMC, HCMC-Hanoi) have zero fee. This is the classic Vietnamese motorbike journey, and we don’t charge extra for it.

Route Planning Support: We Help You Not Miss the Good Stuff
Vietnam has incredible places most travelers never hear about. We’ve been helping riders explore for 12 years—we know where to send you.
Pre-Departure Route Planning
When you pick up your bike, we sit down and discuss:
- What do you want to see? (Mountains? Beaches? Cities? Villages?)
- How much riding per day are you comfortable with?
- Do you like touristy places or off-the-beaten-path?
- Any specific interests? (History, food, nature, culture)
We create a rough route with you showing:
- Recommended towns/cities to stop
- Approximate daily distances
- Must-see highlights you might not know about
- Places to avoid (tourist traps, boring stretches)
Digital Maps Provided
We provide Google My Maps with our recommended routes:
- Pre-loaded waypoints
- Suggested stops
- Approximate daily stages
- Works offline (download before you go)
You’re not locked into these—think of them as a starting framework you adjust as you travel.
Freedom to Wing It
You can absolutely wing it. Many travelers do. Vietnam is set up for motorbike travel:
- Hotels everywhere (easy to find accommodation)
- Google Maps works well in Vietnam
- Locals are helpful
- Other travelers share tips on the road
But: Vietnam is bigger than you think, and every traveler runs out of time before seeing everything. Route planning helps ensure you don’t miss the places you’d regret missing.
Changing Your Route Mid-Trip
You’re free to stop wherever you want for as long as you want.
Want to spend an extra 3 days in Hoi An because you love it? Do it.
Meet travelers raving about a place you’ve never heard of? Go there.
Weather bad in the mountains? Head to the coast instead.
Just let us know if you change your drop-off city (so we can ensure your bike isn’t booked out and your deposit is at the right shop).

The Style Motorbikes Difference: Real Shops, Not Just Drop-Off Points
Not all “multiple location” rental companies are created equal. Here’s what makes us different:
Real Shops in 5 Cities (Not Just Drop-Off Arrangements)
Style Motorbikes has physical shops with staff, mechanics, and inventory in:
- Hanoi — Our largest and first location and busiest shops
- Ha Giang — Our furthest North shop and our branch in the Ha Giang Loop
- Hue — Our smallest shop but offering another central drop off and the Hai Van Pass rental
- Hoi An — Our larger central shop offering a service when heading north to south.
- HCMC — Our largest shop along with Hanoi and our most Southern location
What this means:
- Professional pickup and drop-off experiences
- On-site mechanics if you need pre-departure checks
- English-speaking staff at every location
- Ability to service bikes mid-journey
- Real customer service, not just a handoff point
Many competitors claim “multiple locations” but really just have:
- A partner that stores bikes
- A random garage for drop-off
- No staff, no service, just “leave the bike here”
We actually operate in all 5 cities. This isn’t a franchise or partnership—it’s Style Motorbikes everywhere.
500 Bikes Across Vietnam = Deep Expertise
We maintain over 500 motorbikes across our Vietnam shops. This means:
- We’re very good at maintenance (12 years, 500 bikes)
- Every bike serviced after every rental
- In-house mechanics, not outsourced
- Quality parts, professional standards
- Systems that work
This isn’t a side hustle. Motorbike rental is our core business.
Network of Partner Mechanics Nationwide
Beyond our own shops, we have partnerships with trusted mechanics across Vietnam:
- Hanoi to HCMC corridor covered
- Northern mountains (Ha Giang, Cao Bang, etc.)
- Central Highlands
- Coastal route
Break down anywhere? We can get you help.
12 Years of Experience (Since 2014)
We’ve been doing this since 2014. We know:
- Which routes are incredible (and which are overhyped)
- Best times to visit each region
- How to maintain bikes for Vietnam’s demanding roads
- What travelers actually need vs. what’s marketing fluff
Experience matters when you’re trusting someone with your Vietnam adventure.
More Than Just Rentals
We also offer:
- Guided motorbike tours (Ha Giang, multi-day Vietnam tours)
- Off-road tours with full protection gear
- Bike sales (buy a bike, ride it, sell it back)
- Laos expansion (3 shops in Laos for multi-country journeys)
One-way rental is our signature service because we have the network to do it right.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I really start and finish at any of your 5 locations?
Yes. Any start point, any finish point. Hanoi to Hue? Yes. Ha Giang to HCMC? Yes. Hoi An to Hanoi? Yes.
All combinations are possible.
Why don’t you charge a fee for Hanoi-HCMC when other shops do?
Because enough customers finish in those cities that bikes naturally flow back. We don’t need to truck them, so we don’t charge you for it.
Our smaller branches (Hue, Hoi An, Ha Giang) have more finishers than starters, so we do have small fees for those routes to cover our truck transport costs.
But the most popular route—the classic Hanoi-HCMC journey—is fee-free.
What if I want to change my drop-off city mid-trip?
You can, just let us know in advance:
- So we ensure the bike isn’t booked out when you finish
- So your deposit is transferred to the right shop for return
Example: Booked Hanoi → HCMC, but you love Hoi An so much you want to fly out of Da Nang instead. Just WhatsApp us, we adjust, done.
Can I stop for several days in one place during my journey?
Absolutely. You’re renting the bike for the total duration, not by riding days.
Want to spend 4 days in Hoi An relaxing? Do it. The bike is yours.
Fall in love with Dalat and stay a week? Your call.
This is why one-way rental works—no pressure to “get back” to the start.
What happens if the bike breaks down mid-journey?
- Call our helpline (number provided at pickup)
- We troubleshoot over the phone (often it’s something simple)
- If needed: We contact our partner mechanic nearest to you
- In rare cases: We arrange truck recovery
Every case is different, but we always find a solution. You’re covered across all of Vietnam.
Do I need to book the bike in advance?
Recommended, but not required.
Book ahead (2-4 weeks) if:
- Traveling during peak season (March, October-November)
- You want a specific bike model guaranteed
- You’re flying into Vietnam with tight schedules
Walk-ins work if:
- Traveling off-peak
- Flexible on bike choice
- Not on a strict timeline
Advance booking = peace of mind. We prepare the bike, you know it’s waiting.
Can I extend my rental if I want more time?
Yes, if the bike isn’t booked after your original return date.
Let us know ASAP (WhatsApp is fastest) and we’ll check availability. If free, you can extend.
If booked: We may be able to swap you to a different bike to continue your journey.
What’s the deposit and how do I get it back?
Deposit amount:
- $400-$1,500 (depending on bike value)
- OR leave your passport (many travelers prefer this)
Return:
- When you drop off the bike at the finishing city
- Quick inspection (5 minutes)
- If no damage: full deposit returned immediately
- Cash back if you paid cash, or passport returned
Your deposit moves to your finishing shop—no need to return to starting city for refund.
Can two people ride one bike for one-way rental?
Yes. Choose a bike suited for two:
- Best: CB500X, Versys 300, CB150 Verza
- Possible: XR190L, Future 125cc
- Not possible: Wave 110cc, XR150L (uncomfortable/underpowered for two)
Same rental cost whether solo or two-up. No extra fee for passengers.
What if I’ve never ridden in Vietnam before?
We help you prepare:
- Route planning session (easier vs harder roads)
- Traffic tips (Vietnam driving is different!)
- What to expect (road conditions, navigation, mechanics)
- Emergency contacts and support
Many first-timers do one-way rentals successfully—with the right bike, route, and mindset.
Do you recommend accommodations along the way?
We recommend towns/cities to stop in, not specific hotels.
Why? Accommodation is personal (budget, style, location preference) and widely available.
What we do:
- Suggest good towns for overnight stops
- Warn about places with limited lodging
- Share our experience of what worked for past customers
You book your own hotels—gives you flexibility to adjust as you travel.
Can I take the bike across the border to Laos or Cambodia?
No, the borders don’t allow crossing with a bike.
Laos: We have 3 shops in Laos (Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Pakse). You can ride Vietnam then Laos with another rental. Contact us for details.
Cambodia: Not permitted (insurance/registration complications).
What if I crash or damage the bike?
Minor damage (scratches, broken mirror): Deducted from deposit based on repair cost.
Major damage: Covered up to deposit amount. We assess, repair or replace parts, charge actual cost (not inflated).
Damage waiver insurance: Available to rent separately (reduces your liability).
We’re reasonable—scratches happen on long trips. We charge fair repair costs, not penalties.
How much should I budget for a 3-week trip?
Bike rental: $190 – $960
One-way fee: $0 – 60 (depending on route)
Fuel: ~$150-200 for Hanoi-HCMC

Total: ~$760-2900 (huge range depending on bike/accommodation choices)
Budget traveler: $760-1,200 for 3 weeks (Wave/Future, guesthouses, local food)
Mid-range: $1,000-2,000 (XR150L/CB150X, decent hotels, varied food)

Is one-way rental suitable for solo female travelers?
Yes. We have many solo female customers who complete one-way journeys safely.
Vietnam is generally safe for solo travelers. Standard precautions apply:
- Stay in populated areas
