What Should I Bring With Me For A Vietnam Motorbike Trip?

October 22, 2025 Blog, Bike Information

Before setting off on your Vietnam motorbike adventure, it’s important to know what to bring. Some items are essential, others optional but highly recommended – and a few are better left behind.

Depending on your route, season, and trip length, your packing list might vary, but this guide focuses on longer motorbike journeys – just like most of our riders do.

What is Included with the Rental?

Every Style Motorbikes rental includes all the basics you need to hit the road right away:

  • Rear luggage rack or panniers (depending on bike model)

  • Bungee cords to secure your gear

  • Lock for added security

  • Phone holder with wireless charging or a USB charger

  • Basic helmet (European helmets available for larger bikes)

So, you don’t have to worry about finding tie-downs, locks, or charging options – it’s all ready to go.

What Should I Bring With Me from Home?

If you already have good riding gear, bring it with you. You know it fits, it’s comfortable, and it’s safe. While we have plenty of helmets, the overall helmet quality in Vietnam can be lower, so bringing your own is a great idea – especially gloves and boots, which can be harder to find locally.

Recommended to bring:

  • Quality helmet

  • Riding jacket

  • Gloves

  • Riding trousers or body protectors

  • Motorbike boots or thick trekking boots

Waterproofs are a must – Vietnam’s weather can change quickly. Bring a waterproof jacket, trousers, and a waterproof bag or cover. Large sizes are often difficult to find in Vietnam.

Waterproof essentials:

  • Waterproof bag or bag cover

  • Rain jacket, trousers, or poncho

What Is Optional To Bring?

We already include a good phone holder with every bike, but if you have one you really trust, bring it along.

Optional extras:

  • Personal phone holder

  • Motorbike bag with built-in tie-downs

What Should You Not Bring?

A few things are better left behind – they’ll only weigh you down.

Avoid:

  • Too many clothes – Vietnam has cheap, fast laundry everywhere. Keep your bag under 10kg for comfort.

  • Tools – Mechanics are everywhere. Unless you’re a pro mechanic, skip them.

  • Food and drinks – You’ll never be far from a café or roadside restaurant, and water adds unnecessary weight.

You can also store extra luggage at any Style Motorbikes shop or send it between shops for a small fee.
